On 26th June we exhibited at the Melton Mowbray Country Fair, the capital of English cuisine. On sale was a selection of our Gloucester Old Spot Pork and Sausages, Suffolk X Lamb and Aberdeen Angus Beef which all went down a treat with the food loving public! The day itself was an absoloute scorcher with vendors of cold drinks sure to make a fortune. This also meant BBQ weather and I am sure that the Rutland Sausages bought by Test Match Special's Jonathan Agnew and his wife went down a treat!

In Mid July the farm also saw some new arrivals when I went to collect 22 Aberdeen Angus X calves from a nearby farm. At 6 weeks old these little chaps require a lot of attention - beng fed on milk replacer twice a day to ensure that they receive all of the essential nutrients they require. These are Dairy X bull calves, where a dairy farmer crosses milk producing Dairy cows with a Beef producing Bull to produce a calf that has a real value in the beef sector; unlike many of the unviable pure Dairy bull calves.

Friday 17th June and Saturday 18th June saw our first farmers markets in Uppingham and Oakham. Both days were a massive success and we sold out of all our pork and lamb in very quick time! It was great that so many customers were delighted to find out that they could buy truly local produce on a regular basis. (We are less than 5 miles from both towns). Customers were also impressed that we were able to serve our meat fresh from a chilled display counter rather than shrink wrapping or vacuum packing it. This means we can serve you meat of the quantity you want rather than as how we have pre packaged it!

I look forward to seeing you all at Uppingham next Friday or at Melton Mowbray country fair on 26th June. If you have time to come there will be sausage samples cooked and available for you to try.

James
